Ogun Goverment Flag Off Rice Input Distribution


The 2020 wet season rice production and input distribution for one thousand, one hundred and sixty five rice value chain beneficiaries has been flagged off in Ijebu Ode.

Performing the flag off ceremony for farmers under the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, Central Bank of Nigeria and Ogun state Anchor Borrowers Programme on behalf of the Ogun state governor, commissioner for agriculture Dr Adeola Odedina assured of continuous support for all farmers to achieve the state’s agenda on food security.

Events like this which has become the hallmark of the deliberate focus of the current administration in Ogun state on agricultural opportunities aimed at supporting farmers and other value chain actors are part of the resolve to achieve industrialization and create jobs for the youths as rice farmers are being provided with all they need to achieve bountiful yields at the beginning of the planting season.

Ogun state governor Prince Dapo Abiodun represented by the commissioner for agriculture Dr Adeola Odedina said rice has now taken centre stage like cassava and revealed that similar exercises are ongoing for maize and cotton value chains while arrangements are being facilitated on aquaculture, cocoa and cattle in the anchor borrowers programme.

Dr Odedina enjoined the participants to take full advantage of the supplementary assistance being provided and abide by the terms of engagement of the linkage programme so that other participants yet to be linked can learn from their good performance.

Commissioner for agriculture represented by the permanent secretary Dr Dotun Sorunke said the efforts of the state has put the state on the right track to become the food basket of the nation.

Development Finance officer of Central Bank of Nigeria Dr Oluyemisi Olukoya declared that rice farmers in the state have never had it so good and advised them to live up to the expectation by making judicious use of the facilities.

Zonal Vice president of rice farmers association of Nigeria Mr Victor Korede said the responsibility is upon all the farmers to make use of the opportunity to increase food production.

The commissioner used the occasion to perform the launch of presidential palliative to small holder farmers in the state.
